Watching Ruby and Sapphire kiss on the lips is so satisfying, nevermind that they’re literally two lesbians proposing and getting married on children’s programing, imo that kiss would’ve made cartoon history on its own. It’s not implied, cast off far away onto the background where you have to squint to see it, or even a quick peck on the cheek, it’s right on the lips and right FRONT AND CENTER with the shot zoomed in onto their faces holding there for a moment so it’s impossible to miss and it’s just so passionate and romantic and on your face and I gotta say after a lifetime of having to settle for subtext or “I dunno they might be girlfriends…it’s up to your interpretation ;)” from cishet creators, it feels so incredibly refreshing and I really owe Rebecca Sugar and this show my entire gay life

When your gf concocts a plan of faking her alter-ego’s death that includes you turning into her and stabbing her through the abdomen with a big sword in front of a bunch of enemy soldiers

When your gf uses her powers to construct a disturbingly convincing “corpse” for herself

When your gf COMMITS A HIDEOUS VIOLATION OF YOUR AGENCY WHICH IS EXTRA AWFUL IN THE CONTEXT OF YOUR PARTICULAR BACKSTORY
AND WHICH WILL HANG OVER YOU AND AFFECT YOUR LIFE AND SUPPOSED “FREEDOM” FOR THE NEXT 5000+ YEARS AND FOREVER EVEN AFTER HER DEATH
AND ALL BUT CASUALLY ABUSES HER GREAT AND HIGHLY INSTITUTIONALISED POWER OVER YOU TO SUIT HER WHIMS AND PURPOSES-

actually sorry I don’t have a screencap here I’m just angry

#i will FIGHT rose quartz i swear to god #you know i did a TON of rose diamond stuff back in like 2015/16 and a bunch of us did and we made her pretty like… #privileged and ignorant and making a lot of mistakes and having SO much to learn but #we never made her quite as bad as this  #and what worries me the most is #where…. is the part… where she LEARNED? because from what we’ve seen up to like greg’s time…. it’s just… #rose always did what she wanted…… and that’s that… #the cgs don’t deserve this jfc

I mean, I can’t know this for sure, cause I’m watching the same thing you all are but–I’m pretty sure that’s the point.

Rose didn’t learn. It look becoming Steven to learn. It took shedding her identity completely to be raised and nurtured by these wonderful, wounded, indomitable women (gems? Whatever) And I for one find that to be a fascinating and compelling story.

I mean think about it–what greater triumph is there? Then to remake your oppressor in your own image? As much as Steven is Rose, he is very much everything she could never be and that is because of Pearl and Amethyst and Garnet.

Is that not the story you really want to hear? Not the story of a some…aristocratic savior who learned A Very Important Lesson™ when she started slumming it with the proletariat–you’ve seen that story a hundred times before. This is a story of the people who, with their own two hands, healed from the scars of injustice themselves.

This revelation will be the most important stepping stone on that path: because their reconciliation with this betrayal will mean they will finally, finally drop the hero-worshipping and see everything for what it truly was, and it is in that moment that they will all be truly free.
