When social media influencer Tyler Oakley (branded as a “professional fangirl”) must defend American Women’s rights to access Planned Parenthood’s services – he does it with humor and wit that speaks to young (pop-culture saavy) following he caters to. In spite of the Vice President’s attempts to break ties with states, allowing them to defund Planned Parenthood, Oakley, a porudly homosexual young American man, can eloquantly address the issue by praising another figure who shares his popularity on Tumblr and Instagram, Shrek. Two lines – all he needs to demonstrate his opinion of Mike Pence’s decisions while also remaining funny and relatable. Oakley is a trailblazer for being the entertaining, approachable personality he is, while also using his reach and platform to speak out on an important cause.

My self-hate, which I usually have little problem with, just flared up BIG TIME and I ran to Netflix to try to find something to comfort me but everything seemed too good for me, but then it popped up and I knew it was the right answer.
The sun sets, the day ends and with it so does Shrektember. You feel a sense of melancholy, sad it’s over but happy you could experience these moments. You close your eyes, drift to sleep and dream of Shrek.
I was in college when Shrek II came out, and because our school was in a very small town with nothing to do, a bunch of friends and I went to see it at the theater. I had a station wagon back then, so seven of my closest friends and I could all ride together. On the way home, I made the entire car stop by Walmart so I could immediately buy the soundtrack (2004!) and listen to it for the rest of forever. Seriously, it has been fourteen years and now my kid is the one who likes Shrek, but I still have this soundtrack on my laptop so I can listen to it.
