Y’know what trope I hate? When the character who dates a lot/has lots of one night stands/doesn’t want to be in a serious relationship ends up settling down because they “finally found the right person”, and everything they did before was because they were “sad”, “scared”, or “lost”, or “too young and immature”; or were trying to “punish themselves” (literally wtf???). I hate it and I want it gone forever.

I never, ever fucked up those fleeting “relationships” and so far, both parties were and are always pretty happy. The relationships I did fuck up were the serious, monogamous ones I forced myself into, thinking it was the normal/right thing to do. That caused a lot of damage. And not because of cheating, because that’s also a twisted trope TV just LOVES. When the “womanizer” finally settle down but tragically ends up cheating because “in the end, that’s in their nature”. 

No. “People who don’t like to settle” are still normal humans capable of basic decency and emotions. Cheating is terrible, and communication is always key. Believe me, those kind of forced monogamous and serious relationships usually don’t end because of cheating, but because neither partners is getting what they need from it and it suffocates both of them. It ends with sadness, and sometimes misunderstanding. And sometimes it gets better. But it never lasts.

I just wish TV, and everyone else for that matters, understood that “aromantic/polyamorous/non-monogamous” people exist and aren’t fucking broken. Cheating and lying and self-destructive behaviors is NOT in our nature. Caring, communicating, and tenderness is. Not being able to feel romantic love or romantic emotions doesn’t mean you can’t care deeply about someone. We’re just humans like everybody else.
